
With the theme "Kasali Ka, Sumali Ka!," this year's Social Development Week celebrations will be held from November 27 - 30 at the Glorietta Activity Center, Makati City. The theme calls calls for a stronger partnership among non-government organizations (NGOs), people's organizations (POs), government, and the private sector towards promoting development in our country. It is an invitation for everyone to do his or her share in helping build a brighter future for Filipinos.
The SDW is an annual event hosted by the Caucus of Development NGO networks (CODE-NGO), in partnership with the Peace and Equity Foundation (PEF), Inc. designed to continuously strengthen the efforts of its member networks and its partner institutions. This 4-day activity is also part of a commitment to spread awareness on and involvement in social development work. Social development work is founded on capacity-building, livelihood promotion and community organizing among the underprivileged sectors of our society.
The following are the highlights of this year's SDW celebrations:

November 27, 5 pm - Opening Program. Leaders of the NGO community open SDW 2006 with insightful messages, an introduction of the products featured in the Development Trade Fair, and the unveiling of the photo exhibit. Entertainment will be provided by guest performers.
In celebration of its 5th year founding anniversary, PEF launches its Partner Recognition Awards for civil society organizations (CSOs), people's organizations (POs), local government units (LGUs), and Partnership and Access Centers (PACs). Likewise, a Business Development Services portal for micro enterprises will be opened. This is in partnership with the People Power versus Poverty thru Micro Enterprise Network.

November 27 - 30, Development Trade Fair. Let your Christmas shopping begin at the Development Trade Fair where you will find affordably priced quality products and services from various communities and partner non-government and people's organizations. Support our local industries by visiting the trade fair, designed to generate sustainable livelihoods through participation in the mainstream economy.

November 27 - 30, Photo Exhibit. The photo exhibit is a showcase of the social development activities of CODE-NGO and its member networks. It also features PEF's efforts at reaching the poorest communities thru Poverty Mapping. The color-coded charts and maps introduce an observer to patterns of poverty which proves to be effective in promoting an understanding of development conditions among different stakeholders.

November 28 - 30, PEF Community Enterprise Demo and B2B Fora. See product demonstrations on bamboo crafts, weaving, butterfly farming and clay molding by community producers. Business-to-Business (B2B) fora will also be held to explore market engagement strategies towards poverty alleviation.
November 28, 4 p.m., PRIME Organic Festival. Promoting Rural Industries and Market Enhancement (PRIME) is a program that facilitates the participation of rural poor in enterprises that enhance food security, increase household income and create jobs. This Organic Festival promotes the three industries supported by PRIME namely organic rice, muscovado and seaweeds.
November 30, 5 p.m. Closing Program. In the tradition of SDW, the event closes with a celebration made merry with music and entertainment.
