PEF and Ayala Foundation sign Agreement

The PEF and the Ayala Foundation recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) formalizing the implementation of the local alliance-building activities for GILAS. The event was held at 12:30 pm of February 13, 2006 at the Vigan Room Club 1851 20th Floor of the Bank of the Philippine Islands Main Building, 6768 Ayala Avenue corner Paseo de Roxas, Makati City.

GILAS, or Gearing up Internet Literacy and Access for Students, is a consortium of various private corporations and foundations led by Ayala Foundation, Inc. that is involved in providing internet connectivity for over five thousand public high schools in the Philippines in the next five years. To provide the necessary support for the project, an idea of forming local alliances in the cities and provinces has been proposed. Among those who will be part of the local alliance are the local government, the Department of Education division, the business sector, civil society and other education stakeholders in the city or province.

PEF will be providing funding to organizations who would like to implement alliance building activities in support of GILAS in six identified priority provinces, namely, Mindoro Oriental, Palawan, Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Bohol and Sarangani.
