ACC 21 visits the Mamanwa Integrated Settlement Establishment and Health Enhancement Project
Ms. Megumi Nishijima, project officer of Asian Community Center (ACC) 21 from Japan visited the Mamanwa Integrated Settlement Establishment and Health Enhancement Project in Barangay Marayag, Mainit, Surigao del Norte last September 6, 2009.
It is a partnership project between PEF and Asian Community Trust (ACT) implemented by the Surigao del Norte NGO Coalition for Development Inc. (SUNGCOD) in collaboration with the Local Government Unit of Barangay Marayag. The total project cost is Seven Hundred Ninety Six Thousand Three Hundred Sixty Two Pesos (PhP796,362); ACT funds 48.10 % of the project cost, PEF support is 15.20% and 36.7% comprises the local counterpart (SUNGCOD, LGU and beneficiaries).
The project aims to establish a Mamanwa Settlement with proper tenurial security benefiting (22) Mamanwa households in Marayayg. Mainit, Surigao del Norte. This project is a replication of the PEF-supported two resettlement Mamanwa communities in the two municipalities of Surigao del Norte (Payapag, Bacuag and Gacepan, Sison) implemented by SUNGCOD in 2003.
The project was formally launched on June 23, 2009 where the major project stakeholders SUNGCOD and the LGU of Mainit signed a Memorandum of Understanding formalizing its commitments related to the management and support in the implementation of the ACT and PEF assisted project for the Mamanwas for a period of one year.
The visit was highlighted with the Mamanwa’s ritual on land dedication.
