Social Development Week celebrations

The Peace and Equity Foundation (PEF), the Caucus of Development NGO Networks (CODE-NGO) and the Association of Foundations, together with their various partners, is now holding the Social Development Week Celebrations (SDW) which started last December 12 at the main activity center of the Glorietta Mall in the Central Business District of Makati City. The successes of SDW celebrations for the past two years have encouraged both CODE-NGO and the PEF to consider making this event an annual affair.

This year, the SDW will continue on its theme to celebrate the gains of social development work and highlight the role of NGOs in national development. As an added dimension, this year´s celebrations will dramatize the NGO sector´s contribution towards reducing poverty and improving the quality of life of the Filipino by emphasizing work and gains in the areas of livelihood promotion, basic service delivery, capacity building and policy advocacy. This year´s events will also spread the messages to a wider audience not reached by traditional NGO advocacy campaigns.

Among the activities planned during the week are: a photo exhibit; high impact AVP presentations; member-network activities; the CODE-NGO National Assembly; a PEF Development Forum with the theme "Puwedeng Puwede Yan: Good Projects that Benefit the Poor" and the highly successful Development Market.

The Development Market is designed to provide PEF partners an effective venue and vehicle to showcase their products and services to the Metro Manila market. It is part of PEF´s strategy to progressively improve the quality and marketing of its NGO and PO partners. The past events have particularly been effective in attracting Metro-based commercial outfits and private traders that facilitated the formation of long-term business contracts and partnerships benefiting all parties involved. The events also offered valuable learning experiences for NGO/POs that further enhanced their production and marketing skills.

The PEF Development Forum on the other hand generally aims to showcase PEF projects that show wide reach, innovation and tangible benefits for the poor and to demonstrate how the poverty mapping results have focused anti-poverty efforts by local stakeholders.
